Workshop for WHS Mining Practising Certificates

Location: Dubbo RSL Memorial Club, 178 Brisbane Street

People who are interested in obtaining a practising certificate or who already hold one, will benefit from attending this workshop.

Topics that will be discussed include:

  • How to obtain a practising certificate
  • Implementation timelines
  • Requirements to maintain competence
  • Auditing programme

Participants will have the opportunity to discuss areas of interest and have their records reviewed for maintenance of competence.

Mine Safety Awareness Course 287

Location: Lightning Ridge Bowling Club

This course will review claim markout, mine establishment, roof failure, legislation, types of roof support, mine environment, electrical installations, ventilation of mines, underground surveying and mine planning.

Suggested attendees are individuals that are interested in or are working in mining or individuals applying for a mineral claim in Lightning Ridge.

Cost: $110 (including GST)

To register for this course complete and submit the Mine safety awareness course form.

NSW Exploration Data Workshop in Orange

Location: Tobruk Room, Orange Ex-Services Club, 231–243 Anson Street, Orange.

This half day workshop will showcase the new geological models and prospectivity datasets produced by the Geological Survey of NSW. It will also provide an overview of its data discovery and delivery systems – MinView and DIGS. The workshop is interactive, enabling attendees to explore the data and online systems under the guidance of subject matter experts. Please bring along your own laptop.

Uncover Curnamona

Location: Broken Hill Civic Centre 31 Chloride St, Broken Hill.

Participants will share information and ideas from cutting-edge research by the Geological Surveys of NSW and South Australia and collaborative partners, and mineral explorers under the UNCOVER Initiative themes. The event includes a core viewing session at the EC Andrews Drillcore Facility and a one day field trip to the Mundi Mundi area.

Broken Hill Line of Lode Public Fieldtrip

Location: Albert Kersten GEO Centre, corner Bromide St and Silver City Highway, Broken Hill.

A leisurely look at the famous Line of Lode led by the Geological Survey of NSW. This trip is aimed at the general public, and will provide an overview of the geology of Broken Hill, visit a gossan similar to the one Charles Rasp discovered in 1883 and discuss Broken Hill’s mining history at the historic Browne’s Shaft. Meet at the Albert Kersten GEO Centre at 1.45pm for 2pm departure on a charter bus. There will be an optional drop off at the GEO Centre at 4pm or people can continue to the EC Andrew Drillcore Facility to view drillcore and learn about geoscience online systems, returning to the GEO Centre at 5.15pm.

Please bring sun protection and water.

Stories in Stone: The NSW Library of Rocks

As part of the Sydney Science Festival and National Science Week, join our scientists and technicians for a tour of the NSW Government’s warehouse of rocks, fossils and minerals. See spectacular and unique mineral and rock specimens along with amazing fossils which record past inhabitants of NSW – stretching back over 500 million years.
