The Resources Regulator is investigating an incident at Tahmoor Colliery, located south of Sydney, on Saturday afternoon where a mine worker suffered a serious leg injury.

A group of mine workers in the underground coal mine were removing longwall roof support leg cylinders using a wire rope winch, when a timber prop swung and hit the worker.

As a result of his injury, the worker has undergone surgery.

An inspector from the Resources Regulator was deployed to the site on Saturday night to commence an investigation.

The incident scene was isolated and preserved so witness statements and photos could be taken.

As the investigation is ongoing, further comment will not be provided.
